In 2019, J. Ranck Electric was contracted to be part of the construction team for the Laker Line Bus Rapid Transit expansion, a 13-mile route connecting Grand Valley State University in Allendale to the Michigan Street Medical Mile in Grand Rapids, serve the City of Walker, through West Fulton St., and into downtown Grand Rapids. An estimated 11,000 high-frequency rides per day will be taken on the Laker Line that will connect the Grand Valley State University Allendale campus to the Michigan Street Medical Mile with stops on Lake Michigan Drive. The Laker Line will serve the City of Walker, through West Fulton St., and into downtown Grand Rapids.
JRE completed work ($4.2 Million) on 20 new or existing station with new lighting, with level platform boarding, off-board fare collecting, real-time arrival signage, and emergency phones and cameras. Other work performed includes:
30,000 ft of aerial and underground fiber optic cable
6,000 ft. of directional boring – 4 inch conduit
New traffic signals, control box, were installed at four intersections
Lighting included in grade, bench accent, canopy, wall pack, and under-bridge
Snow melt systems were installed at each station’s canopy
