Truck Parking Information & Management System - Ohio


As part of a larger, 8-state partnership focused on improving the Midwest’s freight transportation network, this project aimed to provide safe and efficient parking for long-haul truck drivers. This project included the installation of equipment to remotely monitor, detect, and display real-time data of open truck parking spaces at nine rest areas on I-75, I-70, and US 33 in Ohio. Spread out over nearly 400 miles of the Ohio highway system, sites were located from Toledo to Cincinnati and from the state line with Indiana to the border with West Virginia.


Project Details
  • February 2017 — December 2018

  • (29) Daktronics dynamic truck parking signs

  • (300 +/-) pavement sensors placed by core drilling pavement

  • (43) ground-mounted ITS cabinets (wireless vehicle detection system/camera control units)

  • (18) 70-foot spun concrete CCTV poles and equipment

  • (34) service racks and utility coordination for power to signs and rest areas

  • Installation included all conduit, power, and fiber optic cable installation and terminations
