MDOC Personal Emergency Location System Upgrade

9 Correctional Facilities — Michigan

J. Ranck Electric (JRE) was the prime contractor for this design/build fiber infrastructure/security project for The State of Michigan Department of Corrections. The upgrade consisted of new Flare Personal Emergency Location Systems (PELS) at the Baraga, Egeler, Ionia, Saginaw, Kinross, Alger, Carson City, Women’s Huron Valley, and Hiawatha Correctional Facilities. A new 48-strand fiber optic backbone was installed throughout each facility to interconnect 1,548 RF receivers, designed to cover 5,000 square-feet of prison property. JRE worked with the product manufacturer to design the layout of the receivers to ensure specified coverage was met. An engineering firm was used for professional documentation of the design. JRE completed this project from concept to completion including: design, installation, splicing, termination, calibration, and testing.
