GM Hamtramck Assembly Plant

Detroit, MI

In 2011, J. Ranck Electric installed a 516 kW solar array on a 5-acre parcel of land outside General Motor’s Hamtramck Assembly Plant. The array, which is a partnership with DTE Energy’s Solar Currents program, was the largest solar array in the state of Michigan at the time of construction. The Detroit plant is the home of the Volt, GM’s electric vehicle. The 264,000 square foot array, made up of 4,032 panels, generates enough electricity to charge 150 Chevrolet Volts every day for a year.
