ARAUCO Particleboard Plant

New Plant Electrical and Site Distribution  — Grayling, Michigan

J. Ranck Electric was contracted to construct the $20 million electrical package at ARAUCO North America’s 150-acre particleboard plant site, main process building, and all outbuildings in Grayling, Michigan. The facility consists of a residual wood and log handing system, wood stage facility, and the main particleboard manufacturing facility with wood flakers and screeners, forming machines, and dryers. At the time of construction in 2018, the plant was the largest continuous single-line particleboard press in North America.

Project Details

Installed 58 manholes (7x7x10, approx. 20,000 lbs each)
Installed 6,980’ of duct bank including 44,470’ of conduit and 1,175 yards of concrete
Standby, and power feeds to major vendor EPS distribution systems
Primary and secondary conduit and cabling from utility substation to the buildings gear/panels
Small dry type transformers to provide power for lighting, convenience outlets, heating, etc.
Switchgear and transformer installation
Interior and exterior site lighting
Power Motor Control Centers 1 through 9
Temporary power and lighting to include the six outbuildings, the two chip storage buildings, and provide temporary heaters
