21 Traffic Signal Modernization

Clare, Isabella, and Gratiot County, MI

In 2016, J. Ranck Electric completed a traffic signal modernization for the Michigan Department of Transportation at 21 locations on various routes in Mt. Pleasant and Alma, Clare, Isabella and Gratiot Counties.

JRE was the general contractor for the project and self-performed 75 percent of the work while managing customer expectations and coordinating subcontractor work when needed. With many of the work sites located in congested business districts, JRE focused on minimizing construction impact on local businesses. Coordination with the utility was crucial with much of this project being situated among existing utility infrastructure and some utility installed wood poles were used.

Along with the signal work, crews removed existing curb, gutter, sidewalk, and removed medians in Mt. Pleasant, Clare and Alma. Crews removing the islands on High St. in Mt. Pleasant to make way for turning lanes. The island removal was part of a larger plan to convert Main Street and Washington Street from one-way streets into two two-way streets between a university campus and downtown area. JRE fabricated and provided all labor, equipment, and material for installation of traffic and pedestrian signals, steel strain poles, foundations, and associated hardware.
