Solar is a clean and renewable energy that is becoming
more affordable every day. With the incentives that are on the
federal, state, and local levels, solar is a choice that makes sense as both an
investment and a way to help preserve the environment.
J. Ranck Electric can evaluate, design, and install all of your solar needs in any geographical area of the United States. Two of the best regions for solar installations right now, due to the funding and programs that are available, are Michigan and Tennessee.
Michigan has added incentives for both residential and commercial customers through feed in tariff programs that are offered by Consumers Energy. Residential customers can receive $.65 per kW generated for installations completed in 2009 and $.525 per kW generated for installations completed in 2010, both for up to 12 years. Commercial customers can receive $.45 per kW generated for installations completed in 2009 and $.375 per kW generated for installations in 2010, both for up to 12 years. Commercial customers are also eligible for federal tax credits and grants which considerably reduce the amount of out of pocket costs. All programs have an application process and not all businesses are eligible for the programs. DTE has rolled out a program that will pay $2.40 per installed DC watt as well as $.11 per kWh generated for systems between 1kW and 20kW. Both of these utility rebate programs can be researched from their respective websites.
Tennessee is offering one of the best incentive packages in the country at this time for commercial customers. Qualifying applicants are eligible to receive the Tennessee Clean Energy Technology Grant in the amount of 40% of the project cost up to $75K. The federal incentive is an additional 30% of the project cost with no limit. Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) customers may qualify for the Green Power Switch Program that offers $1K toward the installation costs of the project plus $.12 above the established power rate per kW generated. This program lasts for a minimum of 10 years. In all instances, applicants must qualify to receive the incentives.
In all geographical areas, an installed solar generation system can add up to 30% of the installed cost to the value of the property and the savings in CO2 that is not emitted can add up to significant savings over the course of the life of the system. Another benefit of solar is the lack of maintenance which accompanies other energy systems. Warranties are offered for up to 25 years on the modules and up to 20 years on the major components. With all of the incentives and the value added to the preservation of the environment, solar is an excellent choice for your power needs.
