History

In June of 1986, James A. Ranck established his own electrical contracting company after dedicating over 12 years to the field as an electrician. Along with a partner, the company was founded under the name of Roy & Ranck Electric in Flint, Michigan. After 15 months in business, Jim became the sole owner and changed the company name to J. Ranck Electric and the location to Coleman, Michigan. The staff included one estimator, one administrative assistant and Jim as the sole project manager. Early projects included the Bay City Mall, Graff Chevrolet’s Bay City dealership and the Marathon Gas Plant in West Branch, Michigan. Field supervision began with three outstanding foremen, one of whom is still with the company today. The other two have since retired from JRE.
The 1990’s was a decade of growth for the company. In 1995 a branch location was established in Sault Ste. Marie, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The following year, after outgrowing the Coleman location, Jim moved the corporate office to a newly constructed 30,000 square foot building in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Around that same time, the company procured one of its most prominent projects, the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mt. Pleasant. In 1999, the company established a branch location in Flint, Michigan. This location was the necessary and final piece of the puzzle in order for JRE to become a true, turnkey contractor, capable of servicing customers throughout the state of Michigan and the United States. In 1998, true to the company’s family oriented roots, Jim’s wife, Lou Ann joined the management team and together Jim and Lou Ann focused on the evolution of the company.
Today, J. Ranck Electric continues to be dedicated to corporate and industry growth. The company commits itself to the research and educational foundation, Electri International. As a member at the Governor level of this organization, Jim financially contributes and personally participates in the research and educational projects for the benefit of the industry.
Throughout the history of the company, Jim has maintained an active membership in the National Electrical Contractor Association (NECA). Jim attributes this affiliation as a key link in developing the necessary contacts and relationships for JRE to become a nationally-recognized and respected electrical contractor.

Currently, JRE is a national presence, performing work in a multitude of states. The company’s diversity lends itself well to the exploration of new markets which often present national projects. Now with over 100 million in sales annually, J. Ranck Electric, Inc. maintains prudent but diverse growth and expansion. The company has followed this stable philosophy since its inception and its growth has not been by chance. Today, management consists of a team of family members, including Jim’s son, Adam, President and daughter, Angie, Vice-President.

Management and employees firmly support the company mission, which is to prioritize safety, quality, and productivity in every job we do, using Christian values as our guide.
